    RAW FREE WRITING: Anything Goes 

    We don't always need to write poems, fiction, or essays with a formal structure or format. It doesn't need to have purpose either. Some writing can be expressive without being intentionally imaginative or artistic. That's what this blog is about. This is a place to write whatever is on the mind or chest. A writer can offload it here, unfiltered and uncensored. This page is not against story writing or poetry, we encourage it, but there are times when writers are not in a headspace to contribute good content to their creative works. We need a place to write about anything and everything clotting the creative flow. 
    
    Write the unedited and raw thoughts taking up mental real estate free of charge. Free Writing is a great strategy for avoiding writer's block and getting the word factory warmed up before embarking on a creative project. Free writing does not require cohesion or comprehensibility; it's simply writing words down to get the ball rolling. Do five minutes of free writing before any essay, poem, article, email, report, or novel and your technical or creative writing will be smoother. Consider Abraham Lincoln's analogy of spending the two hours sharpening the axe to save 4 hours of chopping trees with a dull blade. Free writing is the grinding stone for you to sharpen the writing blade between your ears.

Spite is the Best Motivation       I've been noticing a trend lately in the stories I have encountered the last few weeks. I don't know if this happens to you or not, but I tend to listen when there are repeated themes in a short span of time. It all started when I heard a famous story about Adam Sandler before he made it big. Apparently, while Sandler was in college studying to be an actor, a professor took him out for a beer and told him he'd never make it as an actor. He just didn't have what it took.      As history would have it, Adam Sandler explodes into the comedy icon that he is, and he's sitting with a bunch of famous comedians at a restaurant. He recognizes his teacher there and introduces him to all his friends as, "the only professor to ever buy me a beer." Responding to Disappointing News

“it’s clear that you have an impressive background with valuable skills and experiences. However, we have decided to move forward with another candidate at this time.” Disappointing news for me is exciting news for someone else. That’s what I have to remind myself to remain positive, but I’m still bummed. It’s a lot easier to take it personally, because I feel purposefully unchosen. Somehow that wording feels worse than rejection. There was someone out there better than me, so I spiral into this metaphorical quicksand of self-deprecation and doubt.  “Unfortunately, we will not be moving forward with your application, but we appreciate your time and interest.” The question that lingers is “why?” Was it something I said or just me personally? Was it my resume or lack of experience? It would be good to know which one, because some of the answers to those questions are improvable. However, if the problem is me, I’m screwed sideways. Stop and Notice Me!

      Something about this view captured in the photograph above made me stop in my tracks. It's what the French call " je ne sais quoi," or a special quality that cannot be described easily. It is strange when a place, a moment, a phrase, or sound inspires a human to recognize its quality and capture it. This picture may not be awe inspiring, but the view pulled me out of my trance and asked me to take another look. It was like my "Spidey Sense" tingling at a spectacle that will not be the same again. The sun would not shine down at this angle, the fence will sag a little deeper, the leaves will move with the wind and a car might be parked along the curb. This was a unique and beautiful sight that I felt the need to capture.           The path looks like the setting of a story. It is beckoning and full of character.
